Many people are concerned about nature, being active caretakers and practicing the Art of Eco-Tourism to save endangered species. As a result, most of them decide to visit Costa Rica, a green paradise full of natural beauties, turned into the best Eco-Destination around the world.
What is Eco-tourism?
Eco tourism is the immersion of travelers in natural areas.
According to The International Ecotourism Society, ecotourism is defined as: “Responsible travel to natural areas that conserve the environment and improve the well-being of the local people and species.”
Some of them might include rainforest, rivers or beaches.
The main purpose is to educate people about environmental issues and awareness.
You explore and enjoy at the same time, using your senses like sight, smell, hearing, touch, and sometimes even taste to bring about a better understanding of the natural world.
Eco-tourism always looks forward to conservation and allocating with local communities.
The main intention of these meetings is to get sustainable traveling.
Minimizing impact and providing a financial incentive for conservation.
Why is Costa Rica the Best Eco-Destination?
Costa Rica is the best eco-destination because it has the highest density of plant and animal species on Earth.
Even when it is a very small country, then we hold 5% of the entire biodiversity around the planet.
Costa Rica is also a wonderful eco-destination because it is both interoceanic and intercontinental as well.
Then, species from North and South America migrated here and many animals continue to pass through the country every year.
Costa Rica’s tropical climate extends across extreme variations in altitude and covers countless ecosystems.
This Eco-Destination has 20 life zones, 1,200 orchid species, more than 237 mammal species, 1,260 tree species, 850 bird species, and 361 reptile and amphibian species.
This incredible biodiversity plays an important role in the country’s commitment to conservation.
Benefits of Eco-Tourism
The Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT) estimations show that half of all international visitors participate in some form of ecotourism.
It is very positive; since they enjoy our wonderful eco-destination, but getting eco-awareness at the same time.
They go rafting a river, snorkeling among coral reefs or hiking.
But, they also listen to the birds, watch their wonderful colors, play with the monkeys and smell the plants, getting natural consciousness.
As a result, eco-tourism is responsible for both direct and indirect employment improving the life quality of inhabitants and taking care of the environment as well.
Of course, they must keep working on improving and balancing the impact on nature.
National Parks and Eco-Tourism
Some national parks already have worked on this.
In 1945, Costa Rica took action creating Protected Areas. There are currently 11 of them, becoming a great eco-destination.
Private Reserves were established with more than 70 allied areas supporting conservation as private companies.
Monteverde, for example, does not allow more than 200 people inside the reserve at any given time.
In Manuel Antonio, you´ll find that it´s closed on Mondays and it does not allow more than 800 people into the park each day.
Alternative mechanisms of protection and management of resources and care of endangered species are established through; Ecological Easements, Biological Corridors, and Watershed Management Projects.
