What type of Yoga do I choose?
One of the best things about Yoga is that there is no single type to practice, but depending on whether it’s more active Yoga, more focused on meditation, or more dedicated to muscular work. So, you can find different styles to choose the best for you.
All types of Yoga will help you work to a greater or lesser strength of your muscles (with the help of your body weight), your flexibility, and your breathing.
Be patient
A morning yoga routine doesn’t always mean it’s an easy class. You must have a lot of patience and know how to listen to your body. In addition, it takes time to learn the practice of yoga. In the beginning, you’ll have to observe your yoga instructor to see the correct way to perform the postures (asana).
Choose the perfect area
Many asanas or postures in yoga require a hefty dose of balance. Therefore, before starting your yoga session on the beach, ensure that your chosen area is as flat as possible.
Perfect Temperature
Unless you are a disciple of Bikram yoga (yoga at 40˚C), the ideal temperature to practice morning yoga is 19 to 22˚C. Of course, it depends on the month of the year; try to choose the moment of the day that maintains this approximate temperature.
During the hottest season in Costa Rica, try it in the first hours of the morning or the last hours of the afternoon. Remember to also bring sweatshirt or warm clothes to cover yourself with at the end of the sequence, during relaxation, as it is common to feel a little cold.
Sunscreen Cream
Even if you try it early in the morning, never underestimate the power of Surya, God of the Sun, who enlightens us, vivifies us, and if we are not careful, he will also burn us.
During morning yoga, it’s common to reach an intense state of relaxation and concentration that can make you forget about the clock. Just in case, it doesn’t hurt to apply sunscreen.
How much time should I dedicate to my morning Yoga practice?
If you have never practiced Yoga before, you can start by considering a 30-minute routine twice a week. Then, schedule your training sessions on alternate days (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, for example) to have a rest day between them where your body can rest.
Another possibility you have, especially to create a training habit, is to start your day with a small routine of 10 or 15 minutes first thing in the morning. A good idea to raise it is to dedicate it to this small routine (ideally, you perform a few sequences of the salutation to the sun) every day during the week, from Monday to Friday.
Once you improve, you can do longer sessions: classes usually last an hour in studios and gyms, including relaxation or meditation time. The most important thing is that at the beginning, you create the habit of training daily: once you achieve it and see improvements and benefits, your body will “demand” you to continue practicing.
Yoga is the silence of your mind
Concentration is one of the critical points to obtaining an optimal morning yoga practice experience.
For this reason, although it is sometimes complicated, try to choose a beach away from the crowd. That’s because, unfortunately, as much as you are an expert in the technique of pratyahara (abstraction of the senses), you will hardly be able to abstract yourself from the screams of wild children playing throwing sand balls.
Above all comfort, there is no ideal outfit
During practice, you should feel comfortable. Remember that you need mobility throughout your body and all your joints. Also, think that you’ll be doing yoga positions in which you will be with your head down, and if you wear something too wide, the shirt may fall on your head, so it is recommended that you wear a sports bra or a shirt that does not be so wide.
Relax
If you practice morning yoga regularly, your teacher has suggested that you visualize a natural environment such as a forest, a mountain, or the sunset on a beach in some relaxation setting. And this, undoubtedly, is the great advantage of practicing morning yoga in a natural environment: you do not have to imagine anything.
You simply must sharpen your senses, feel the sea breeze while doing the sun salutation, and perceive the smells of saltpeter and iodine while in cobra pose. And, of course, immerse yourself in a deep and intense relaxation without needing anyone to guide you or offer you visualizations. Instead, just listen to the waves breaking on the shore.
Meditate
When you’re practicing morning yoga, meditation is the key to reach your inner peace. Meditation also helps us live with a more precise and skillful mind when dealing with toxic or negative emotions and promoting positive ones.
Therefore, take advantage of the fact that you are in the perfect environment and reserve a few minutes (or a good time) to meditate. Situate yourself in the lotus, half-lotus, or cross-legged position, make sure your back is straight, bring your chin slightly to your chest and bring your attention to your nostrils, to your breath.
If any thought comes to your mind, let it pass, let it go, and immediately afterward, bring your attention back to your breath.
