7 Ways to Lose Weight with Yoga

Yoga is sometimes considered as a way to relax, get calm and balance, many people don´t consider that you can actually lose weight with yoga.

1.     It is not only an ancient art…

Dr. Lewis Maharam, a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine declares:

“Yes, you can lose weight with yoga, and actually it’s become in vogue with a lot of celebrities like Madonna, Halle Berry, and Jennifer Aniston”.

Yoga is a sophisticated tradition with physical, relaxation, and breathing exercises, aerobic exercise is what helps you lose weight.

“If someone wants to lose weight with yoga, they are going to have to be in a class that challenges them”.

You´ve got to be sure that your heart is really beating faster.

“There are different levels of yoga. There is yoga that’s meant for the mind, and there’s power yoga that’s more of an exercise”.

“If you want to lose weight with yoga you’ve got to be sure that you’re doing something more than just a mind experience with relaxing stretches.”

2.     Yoga changes your body from the inside

You can lose weight with yoga because it corrects your metabolism, regulates blood flow, and revitalize your general functioning.

Along with weight loss, yoga also helps to relieve stress, which is one of the main causes of weight gain and other illnesses.

When practicing yoga regularly, yoga leaves you feeling relaxed, fresh, and focused.

Yoga brings your mind, body, and breath in harmony, thereby eliminating stress from your life.

From fat loss, building endurance, making you more flexible, regular yoga sessions will do your body a whole lot of good.

3.     Try out The Trikonasana or Triangle pose

This pose is one of the most effective asanas to lose weight, stand straight with your feet wide apart and hands straight parallel to the ground.

Bending on your left side and trying to touch your left foot with your left hand. Stay in this position for 10-20 seconds and repeat with the other side.

The twisting motion of the asana helps to improve digestion and reduces the fat deposit from the belly.

The pose engages the muscles of your legs and arms and helps you build more muscles.

Doing all three variations of the Warrior pose can help you lose weight, burn belly fat, and tone muscles in an effective manner.

This is also a great way to keep your muscles engaged for a long time.

4.     Discover and feel the Virabhadrasana

If you want to lose weight with yoga, this variation is extremely helpful for strengthening core muscles in your abdominal and stomach area, helping you achieve a more defined and shapelier look.

It is also great for boosting body balance and vitality, since it gives a nice stretch to the legs, shoulders as well as ankles.

How to do it

Start by doing Virabhadrasana to lose weight with yoga.

From here, slowly extend your leg so that it looks more straightened.

Guaranteeing that the knee does not bend, place the heel of the behind leg on the ground. Balancing your body, staying in this position, try and twist the upper half so that you face sideways.

Hands should be raised on either side.

Stay in this position for at least 5 breaths and then repeat on the other side.

With every deep breath, your focus starts to improve, and blood flow in the respiratory tract increases.

Make sure that the body weight is distributed evenly on all sides.

Your palms should also be facing downward, and not upward.

5.     The chair and boat poses are the best for your belly and butt

Stand straight with your feet joined together and hands by your side.

Now raise your arms above your head such that your palms face each other and now bend slowly from your knees, exactly like you’d do in a squat position.

Your thighs should be parallel to the ground. Stay in the position for 10-15 seconds.

Well, your body looks like a boat when in this position.

To perform the asana, lie flat on the ground with your hands by your side.

Now slowly lift your upper body and legs, such that your body forms a V shape.

Keep your hands straight, parallel to the ground.

Stay in the position for 10-20 seconds.

6.     Bow pose (Dhanurasana).

Star by keeping flat on the stomach on the floor.

Now slowly start lifting your upper body, just like you do in the cobra pose, and simultaneously also lift both your legs.

Now hold your legs with your hands and stay in the position for as long as comfortable.
